Discord is susceptible to a common issue when it comes to connecting to voice channels. One of the most common problems with Discord is “Discord No Route Error,” or commonly known as “No Route.”

What does the “No Route” Error Mean?
Have you ever tried connecting to a voice channel in Discord, but all it keeps saying is “No Route?” No Route issue is probably is one of the most occurring problems in Discord.
The No Route error occurs while attempting to connect to a Discord server’s voice channel when the app is blocked from connecting to the voice server because of some issues with your network. The network issue causes the error but voice server dropouts, VPNs, or firewall restrictions.
The No Route error falls under the same category as the ICE (Interactive Connectivity Establishment) Checking and Stuck RTC Connecting errors. ICE checking error is related to a voice chat error that occurs while trying to communicate with someone on Discord.
Reasons for Discord No Route Error
Here are some of the reasons why your Discord is showing a No Route error.
- The IP address assigned to the PC was changed – This typically happens a computer uses Dynamic IP (IP that regularly changes).
- 3rdparty Firewall or Antivirus is Blacklisting Discord –Discord won’t be permitted to maintain an outgoing connection with an external server.
- The computer uses a VPN without UDP –Discord is programmed to only work with VPN solutions that have UDP (User Datagram Protocol).
- Discord is blocked by network admin – If you’re using Discord at work or from a school network.
- The server’s voice region is incompatible with your client – This happens when you try to connect to a server hosted on a different continent.
- QoS doesn’t work with your network – Maybe your network doesn’t support Quality of Service High Packet Priority.
If you encounter this problem the next time you’re using Discord, you need not worry because there are many different ways to solve this problem.
How to Fix the No Route Error?
You can apply several different methods to fix the No Route error depending on the type of problem you’re facing. First of all, make sure that your network is private (not public).
1. Restart Modem/Route or Computer
Most of the time, the technical glitches are resolved by a simple reboot. The No Route error is often encountered when a Dynamic IP disrupts the IPV6 connection.
- This is a temporary solution to the temporary problem.
- Restart your router and Computer to reset the network settings of your route.
- At the next setup, make sure to connect to Discord voice servers without encountering a No Route error issue.
2. Uninstall 3rd Party Firewall or Whitelist Discord
If restarting your router and computer doesn’t work, then there might be some other possible causes for the error. Another possible cause for the error could be an overprotective Antivirus or Firewall that prevents Discord from maintaining an outgoing connection.
- To assess this issue, you must uninstall your antivirus software entirely and see if Discord manages to connect to the voice server without any problem.
- You can visit the Programs and Feature panel in Settings to find the Antivirus software. You can type “appwiz.cpl” in the Run Command to open the Programs and Features as an option.
- Uninstall the application and restart your software. Next, open the Discord app and try to connect to the voice server.
3. Remove VPN or Use One with UDP
Discord is designed to run on a VPN that uses UDP (User Datagram Protocol). No Route error may occur because the Discord app is not intended to run with VPNs that aren’t using the UDP.
- You can consult with the VPN solution provider regarding the usage of UDP. You can also disable and enable the VPN to try connecting to a new voice server.
- If VPN without UDP is an issue, you can consider choosing a different VPN provider.
4. Verify Whether Network Admin blocks discord
This problem may occur when you’re using Discord from a work or school network. The Network administrator has likely blocked Discord.
You can quickly fix this issue by repairing the public network.
- Open Network and Sharing Center and click on the Connections hyperlink associated with your Private network connection.
- Tap on Properties to go to the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TVP/IPv4), and tap on properties.
- Change the DNS server settings. Change Preferred DNS server to 8 8 8 8 and the value of Alternate DNS server to 8 8 4 4, and click OK.
- Next, reboot your computer before opening the Discord app.
5. Change the Server’s Voice Region
Suppose the “No Route” error only persists while trying to connect to a friend living on a different continent. In that case, you can ask the server administrator to see another voice region from the server settings.
6. Disable QoS from Voice & Video Settings
No Error issue can also happen on computers that can’t keep up with High Packet Priority Quality of Service. You can resolve this issue by disabling QoS from User Settings.
- To disable QoS, start with opening the Discord app and clicking on the gear icon.
- Scroll down to App Setting and choose Voice & Video.
- Next, scroll down to Quality of Service and disable the toggle associated with “Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority.”
- Close and reopen Discord and try checking if the problem persists.
7. Flush DNS Setting
This is an easy solution. Flushing DNS helps to reset IP configurations.
- Open Run by pressing WIN+R and then type “cmd.”
- You’ll see the Command prompt in front of you; now type “ipconfig/release” and press enter.
- Next, type “ipconfig/flushdns” and press enter.
- Finally, type “ipconfig/renew” to renew the IP configuration.
No Route error is likely caused by one of these issues. You can try any of these methods to resolve the issue, but if the problem persists despite trying all the ways, maybe the Firewall of the network router is blocking Discord. You can either lower the network’s Firewall setting or switch to another network.
